the vinyl factory has teamed up with french label zone for another rugged techno four tracker, this time from close associate and well established production talent maelstrom. though his name suggests total chaos, maelstroms music belies intention, focus and precision. often marked as exciting newcomer to french techno, maelstrom has actually been making music for over fifteen years. with a cryptic history of aliases and side projects, illegal raves thrown in warehouses and fields and basements, the artist has really come into his own under this moniker. the optics ep showcases metallic techno, acid house, industrial noise and stark ambient sounds, forging smokey machine music for those with a penchant for post punk and a soft spot for the spikier end of the techno spectrum.

a sort of cabaret voltaire for the iphone age, drooids are a collective of three multimedia artists who produce electronic music using improvisational, often anarchic methods. utilizing a hodgepodge of gear both old and new, and not-wholly-quantized, they create a collage of sounds that verges on chaos before slipping back into a dark yet weirdly club-oriented beat. their live shows usually feature multiple guest collaborators, costumes, sculptural props and performative antics. for their debut release on lse we tried to capture the spirit of these shows and recorded over 11 hours of drooids improvising in the studio of the course of one week. those 11 sprawling hours then got edited down to these 4 snapshots, mastered and pressed in a limited edition of 200 (40 with original gelatin silver prints) for our 6th vinyl release.

june records presents concept 1210, a collaborative project between we are monsters, ratlife records, nation and june records. represented respectively by all the wild eyes (solar), credit 00, naughty wood, traxx, the pedestrian, villan x ,trenton chase and june. concept 1210 is a contemporary take on diy electronics, introducing nu-no wave made with the original rhythm machines, synthesizers and sequencers that became available between the period of late 1970s to mid 1980s. “my sin” by the pedestrian with credit 00 is a recording from a live performance in 2010 at hellerau festival in dresden. june s -the legion- is a studio recording made with a korg kpr-77 and a modular system that transits to electronic chaos. “character” is the result of the uninhibited collaboration between aficionados villan x and naughty wood offering a new demented take on diy electronics. * protection* is the outcome of the first collaboration between june and traxx resulting to riot electronics. *all the wild eyes* offers doggo with vocals by credit 00, a psychedelic - 10 minutes long - boss dr-55 driven piece. trenton chase s * prowler* is a home recording that transfers angst through a hypnotic maelstrom of noise and grainy atmosphere. limited double vinyl edition of 250 copies (12-inch pressed on black vinyl and 10-inch pressed on grey vinyl).

infamous for his part in glasgow’s dj duo optimo and the production partnership naum gabo (speicher / kompakt extra), j.g. wilkes is an esteemed music producer with a catalogue that has been building since the turn of the century. the ‘jaxon’ ep is j.g. wilkes’ first widely available solo 12” release containing four exquisite cuts exploring the ethereal boundaries of electronica. taken from a limited edition mini album box set entitled ‘german pizza party’ (vf111), j.g. wilkes’ ‘jaxon’ is the only track from that collection aimed anywhere near a dancefloor, in which rich and potent rhythms collide with foreboding frequencies. cologne’s barnt isn’t afraid to let the elegance of space and chaos into his heartfelt rework, solidly cementing the koln-glasgow freundschaft. the ep features two further productions from wilkes, the melancholic, beatless and occasionally ruthless ‘bathing beauty’ in its original form and ‘useful tool’, given a turbulent rework by naum gabo.

for the second release on her return to disorder label, helena hauff taps into the dark underbelly of the athens techno scene and presents the undoubted talents of greek producer morah. a resident at athens party phormix, morah has clearly been crafting his productions skills in private for some time as this three track 12inch is a powerful display of techno at its dankest. solution sets the tone, dipping into gnarled acid electro that seems to teeter on the brink of all out chaos with fellow a-side track take all similarly nasty. morah gets a chance to show his more experimental side with up in flames, a scorched exercise in freeform electronics with some particularly haunting vocals.

vactrol park is an honest outpouring of thematic obsession, a celebration of championed studio components and the mastery of their nuance, an avant garde collaboration between kyle martin (land of light, spectral empire) and guido zen (gamers in exile, brain machine). simply entitled i (the first of a 2 part series), this debut ep opens the door to a world of ebb and flow, layers of oscillation falling in and out of sync, keeping us on the brink of vertigo and, as cliché as it may sound, we find solace in its chaos. this homogeneous release plays with the notions of systems as beautifully symbolized mario hugo s capsule of cardiologyyet another visually arresting module in the esp institute catalogue. some music is made for drugs, some is made on drugs, these tracks simply are drugs.

they say that to know where you are going, you must know where you come from. in 2008 akkachar founded the rwina label, naming it after the word for never-ending chaos in the tamazight dialect of his north african ancestors. over the next five years he let the chaos unfold, building the label into an unpredictable yet reliable power house of dance and electronic music. today he turns to his roots for his own debut release, a three-track ep inspired by and dedicated to the amazigh (or berber) culture found in moroccos rif mountains.
